Hioki BT3554-51 Battery Tester Overview
The Hioki BT3554-51 is a handheld battery impedance tester for UPS systems, data centres, telecom sites, substations and standby generator batteries. It measures a cell’s internal resistance and voltage at the same time, along with temperature when a sensor lead is used, so you can spot ageing cells before they fail.
The -51 kit is the BT3554-50 tester supplied with the Hioki 9465-10 straight pin type test lead. The lead is easy to hold on battery terminals and posts. Each reading takes about 100 ms, and you can measure and save in under 2 seconds, which matters when a site has hundreds of cells.

What is the difference between the Hioki BT3554-50 and BT3554-51?
The tester is the same. The BT3554-51 kit adds the 9465-10 straight pin type test lead, which reaches terminals on flooded and VRLA batteries easily. The BT3554-52 kit comes with the L2020 pin type lead instead, and the -91/-92 kits add the Z3210 wireless adapter.
Does the BT3554-51 include the Z3210 wireless adapter?
No. The Z3210 is included only in the Bluetooth kits (BT3554-91 and -92). It can be added to the BT3554-51 later as an option to send data to the GENNECT Cross app.
Can I test UPS batteries without disconnecting them?
Yes. The BT3554-51 measures internal resistance with a 1 kHz AC signal, so batteries can be tested while connected to a UPS or DC system. Its noise reduction helps keep readings stable on live strings. The maximum input is 60 V DC.
What does internal resistance tell me about a battery?
Internal resistance rises as a lead-acid cell ages, sulphates or dries out. Comparing each cell with its baseline and with other cells in the string shows weak cells before they fail during a power outage.
How many readings can the BT3554-51 store?
6,000 readings, arranged as 12 units of 500. The Measurement Navigator guides you through a string cell by cell, and data can be exported over USB.
What batteries can the BT3554-51 test?
It is designed mainly for lead-acid batteries (flooded and VRLA) in UPS and standby systems, and also supports nickel-cadmium and nickel-metal hydride cells, up to 60 V DC. Hioki notes that lithium-ion packs can be measured, but their resistance change is small and includes the protection circuit, so degradation is harder to judge.
