The Megger Tan Delta attachment is an accessory that adds dissipation-factor (tan delta / loss factor) measurement to Megger VLF sine cable test systems. By measuring tan δ while the cable is energised at very low frequency, it lets engineers precisely determine the condition of the cable insulation and quantify ageing effects such as moisture ingress and water treeing – identifying cables at risk before they fail.
It works as a standalone accessory with portable VLF sine systems or integrated into VLF test vehicles, showing voltage, current and loss factor in real time on a graphical display. Automatic result interpretation to IEEE 400.2, leakage-current correction and immunity to multiple earthings make measurements dependable, while battery operation and a rugged case suit field cable-diagnostics work.
