The Megger CHM series of cable height meters uses ultrasonic sound to determine the height of up to six overhead cables and wires. The instruments emit short bursts of ultrasonic sound from a cone-shaped transmitter; the sound waves travel upward, reflect off the overhead cables and return, and the built-in microprocessor calculates the travel time to determine each cable’s height. The CHM600 and CHM600E are designed primarily for power-cable applications, while the CHM2000 is designed for telecommunications, giving accurate, safe, ground-level height measurement without contacting live conductors.
