Megger SWG 505 5 kV Surge Wave Generator

Overview

The Megger SWG 505 is a compact surge wave generator (thumper) optimised for pinpointing faults on low-voltage underground cables. It discharges stored energy into the cable to ignite an arc at the fault point; the resulting acoustic and electromagnetic transients are then detected at the surface with a ground-microphone receiver such as the Megger digiPHONE+, allowing the fault to be located accurately.

With a maximum surge voltage of 5 kV and 500 J of surge energy, the SWG 505 is well matched to LV distribution cables where lower voltages are appropriate. Adjustable output and a selectable surge interval, together with its light 43 kg weight, make it a practical, portable tool for utility and contractor cable crews.
