Megger VLF CR-60 Cosine-Rectangular Cable Test System

Overview

The Megger VLF CR-60 is a portable cable test system that uses a cosine-rectangular very-low-frequency (VLF) waveform to withstand-test medium-voltage cables. VLF testing allows long lengths of cable to be tested with compact, transportable equipment rather than the large resonant sets required for power-frequency testing, making it ideal for commissioning and maintenance of MV cable networks. As the highest-rated model in the CR series, the CR-60 is rated to 60 kVrms and suits cables up to the 35 kV voltage class.

A key strength of the CR series is that it combines VLF, DC and sheath-fault testing in a single device. It applies a 0.1 Hz cosine-rectangular test voltage in line with international standards, includes an integrated discharge system for safety, and — in combination with a step-voltage probe — enables precise pinpointing of cable sheath faults. This lets one instrument cover routine withstand testing and sheath-fault diagnosis together.
