Testo 511 Pocket-Sized Absolute Pressure Meter

Testo 511 Overview

The Testo 511 gives HVAC and lab technicians the local absolute air pressure on one small display. It covers 300 to 1200 hPa with ±3 hPa accuracy and 0.1 hPa resolution, the figure you need to correct air density when you turn a Pitot-tube reading into duct velocity. Enter the altitude of the site once and the meter also shows barometric (sea-level) pressure.

The testo 511 can also measure the barometric altitude difference between two points, making it useful for a range of tasks in HVAC, laboratory and environmental monitoring work. Its pocket-sized design, clip-on protective cap, belt holder, holding magnets on the back and illuminated display keep it convenient to carry and quick to use in the field.

Who the Testo 511 is for

The Testo 511 is for HVAC commissioning engineers, lab and cleanroom staff and instrument technicians who need the local absolute air pressure to correct air density, for example when turning a Pitot tube reading into a velocity, or who want a quick barometric reference before checking other pressure instruments.

Datasheet facts for the Testo 511 (0981 9774) worth knowing:

• Measures 300 to 1200 hPa with 0.1 hPa resolution and a 0.5 s measuring rate
• Shows hPa, mbar, Pa, mmH2O, mmHg, inH2O, inHg or psi, and altitude in m or ft
• Two AAA cells last about 200 hours with the display light off
• Works from 0 to +50 °C; IP40, 119 × 46 × 25 mm and 90 g with cap and batteries
• Optional 2 m silicone connection hose (0554 0448) rated to 700 hPa

See all pressure instruments or the Testo brand page. For differential pressure on filters and ducts, look at the Testo 510i smart probe or the Testo 510 digital manometer; the Testo 512-1 is another differential pressure option. Every figure above is in the official testo 511 data sheetPDF.

Testo 511 FAQ

Quick answers about the Testo 511:

• Does the Testo 511 have a magnetic back? Yes. Testo’s manual shows holding magnets on the rear, next to the battery compartment. Keep the meter at least 10 cm from a pacemaker and away from things magnets can damage, such as bank cards and monitors.
• Can the Testo 511 calculate barometric pressure? Yes. Enter the site altitude above sea level and it converts the absolute reading into barometric (sea-level) pressure.
• Does it measure differential or gauge pressure? No, it reads absolute pressure only. For differential readings choose a model such as the Testo 510i.
• Can it show a height difference? Yes. Enter the altitude of your starting point and the 511 stores the current pressure as its reference, then shows the height difference at the destination. Testo notes the weather must not change in between; if it does, enter a new reference value.
