Overview

The Megger SPI4000 is a high-current smart primary injection test system designed to test the largest low-voltage circuit breakers, switchgear, current transformers and protection systems. It supplies 4000 A continuously and can deliver up to 40,000 A for short durations, letting engineers inject realistic fault currents to prove trip characteristics and system performance.

Output is smoothly adjustable from zero to the maximum available through the impedance of the device under test, with a series-connection option to raise voltage at reduced current. Auto-ranging metering and a high-precision timer capture current and trip time accurately, while the Smart Touch View Interface (or PowerDB software) makes even high-power injection testing straightforward to set up and run.

The unit will produce maximum rated output when the input is as specified in the above table.
The unit auto-senses the input voltage and can run on any input voltage down to 260 volts, with possible limitations.
The unit can run with a 240-volt input, with the 240-volt mode selected, and will produce ½ of rated output.

Output Specifications

Output circuit: The output of the test set is adjustable from zero to the maximum current available through the impedance of the device under test.
Multiple output ranges are provided to accommodate a variety of load circuit impedances. For high impedance devices, the output can be connected in series to increase the output voltage at a reduced maximum current.
The maximum current available is determined by the load circuit impedance and the input voltage, while the duration is determined by thermal conditions within the test set.

Output Connections

Each test set is equipped with a Megger stab adapter board and stab sets (Model CBS-1 and CBS-2) for use with draw-out style, metal-clad breakers.
The stabs eliminate the significant losses that occur if leads are used to connect the breaker under test to the test set.
Cables must be used when testing molded-case breakers or other devices that cannot connect directly to the stabs.
