Megger PVS100i Phase Verification System

Overview

The Megger PVS100i is a phase verification system that lets utilities positively identify and match phases across a distribution network without running a physical connection between the two measuring points. It uses two identical units – one set as a reference base station connected to a known phase, the other as a mobile unit – and compares the phase angle measured in the field against the reference to confirm which phase is which.

Synchronisation is achieved using the GPS time signal (cached for up to an hour) with GSM communication for real-time phase assignment, so measurements taken at widely separated points can be compared reliably. Working from 400 V up to 120 kV via a wireless high-voltage sensor, the PVS100i supports safe network restructuring, switching operations and load balancing, helping prevent mis-phasing and improve network reliability.
