MEGGER HFCT HIGH FREQUENCY CURRENT TRANSFORMERS
Megger High Frequency Current Transformers (HFCT) are innovative devices crafted to optimize partial discharge (PD) monitoring across various electrical systems, extending from medium voltage (MV) to extra high voltage (EHV) applications. Specifically engineered for the decoupling of PD signals, HFCT sensors are adept at enhancing the reliability and performance of electrical infrastructure.
These sensors are typically attached around the earth connection of cable accessories, such as a cable earth screen, facilitating accurate and efficient PD signal extraction. Megger provides two primary types of HFCT sensors to meet diverse application needs: permanent and split-core.
Permanent HFCT sensors are particularly suited for installations where continuous monitoring is essential. This type of sensor is invaluable for assets where operational downtime is rare or difficult to schedule. With permanent HFCT sensors in place, utilities and service providers can perform online PD monitoring seamlessly, eliminating the need for power outages and thereby minimizing disruption and downtime.
Split-core HFCT sensors, on the other hand, offer flexibility and convenience for spot testing scenarios. These sensors are designed to be easily applied and removed, making them ideal for temporary diagnostics where direct access to the earth screen is available. While split-core HFCTs can be used within switchgear cabinets, safety protocols typically require a power outage to ensure the safety of personnel during their installation and operation.
