The MVCT is a portable, automated analyzer for current transformers (CTs) and voltage transformers (VTs). It covers ratio, phase/polarity, winding resistance, burden, demagnetisation, and saturation — including knee-points up to 40 kV on the current datasheet (MVCT_DS_EN_V13; earlier editions quoted 30 kV) via Megger’s patented DC technique — with automated routines aligned to IEEE C57.13 and IEC 61869.

The MVCT suits utility protection engineers, substation commissioning contractors and switchgear builders who test many multi-ratio CTs per outage. It connects to all taps at once and measures them together, so one push of a button gives ratio, polarity, winding resistance and the saturation curve and knee point for every tap. It can plot up to 10 saturation curves side by side and demagnetises the CT automatically after the test. Knee points are calculated to IEEE C57.13.1, IEC 60044-1, IEC 60044-6 or IEC 61869, including PX, TPS, TPX, TPY and TPZ protection cores.

What engineers ask before ordering an MVCT:

• Does every MVCT test VTs? No. VT testing is a factory option. Basic covers ratio, phase angle and secondary winding resistance. Advanced adds excitation, short-circuit impedance and insulation. VT leads (1010-198 and 1009-515) are ordered separately.
• Can CTs stay inside the transformer or breaker? Yes. Toroidal and bar-type CTs can be tested while mounted in transformers, oil circuit breakers or switchgear, as long as the equipment is fully isolated from the system.
• Can it run without the screen? Yes. Order it without the display and control it from a laptop with PowerDB, or from a Megger STVI.
• Can it test relays? Yes, with the relay option, for single-phase relays. Its current channel gives 30 A at 200 VA continuous and up to 60 A at 300 VA for short durations.
