Megger 569001 Ultrasonic Leak and Corona Detector

Overview

The Megger 569001 is a portable ultrasonic detector used to find pressurised gas and air leaks and to locate electrical corona, arcing and tracking. Many of these conditions emit ultrasound that is inaudible to the human ear; the 569001 detects that high-frequency sound and converts it into an audible signal, so a technician can quickly home in on the exact source of a leak or discharge during routine surveys and maintenance.

Frequencies between 35 and 45 kHz are amplified and converted to audible sound by a solid-state heterodyne receiver, with intensity shown on a 0–10 linear meter and heard through the built-in speaker or the supplied headset. The instrument is sensitive enough to detect a 0.05 mm (0.002 in) diameter leak at 1.5 m (5 ft) with only 10 psi of pressure. Powered by a single 9 V battery with around 75 hours of life and housed in an anodised aluminium chassis, it is a rugged, dependable tool for plant and utility maintenance.
