Megger Smart Thump ST16-20 Cable Fault Location System

Overview

The Megger Smart Thump ST16-20 is a compact, integrated cable fault location system for identifying, prelocating and pinpointing faults on medium-voltage distribution cables from 11 to 35 kV. It combines a surge (thumper) generator with a built-in reflectometer and automated test sequences, so an operator can carry out a complete fault-finding job – from proof testing to precise pinpointing – from a single portable, cart-mounted unit.

The system supports the full range of methods: TDR, arc-reflection prelocation, ICE surge-pulse, direct surge thumping, DC HV proof testing with insulation measurement, and earth-gradient/sheath-fault location. Its “E-Tray” automatic sequence interprets the fault type and calculates the distance, presenting results on a 7-inch sunlight-readable colour display, making advanced cable diagnostics accessible to occasional as well as expert users.
