• Why four test frequencies? Switching between 94, 105, 111 and 128 Hz lets you find the frequency least disturbed by stray currents in the soil.
• My stakeless reading looks far too low. Why? This usually means the clamps are reading a metallic loop in the bonding network rather than the electrode, so switch to a staked method.
• How far out should the stakes go? Megger’s rule of thumb for a single rod is a current stake at the end of the supplied 15 m lead and a potential stake at about 62% of that distance.
