Megger MV DAC30 30 kV Damped AC Cable Test System

Overview

The Megger MV DAC30 is a portable damped-AC (DAC) test and diagnostic system for medium-voltage power cables. It applies a damped alternating-current test voltage — an oscillating waveform whose frequency closely mimics real service conditions — to identify, evaluate and locate partial-discharge (PD) faults in cable insulation and accessories. Because the stress applied is representative of normal operation, the MV DAC30 gives a realistic assessment of a cable’s condition without over-stressing it.

The system tests at a peak voltage of 30 kV and is used both for quality-control testing of newly installed cables in line with IEEE 400.4 and for condition monitoring of aged cable circuits to prevent unexpected outages. Its damped-AC waveform allows accurate determination of partial-discharge inception (PDIV) and extinction (PDEV) voltages. A modular two-part design — a control unit with laptop plus a separate HV unit — keeps it portable for field use, and an isolated configuration ensures the cable under test is the only accessible live component for operator safety.
