Megger DLRO10-NLS Review: 10 A Low-Resistance Ohmmeter (No Lead Set)

Megger DLRO10-NLS: Precision 10A Digital Low Resistance Ohmmeter (No Lead Set)

The Megger DLRO10-NLS is an industrial-grade, 4-wire Kelvin digital micro-ohmmeter delivering fast, lab-accurate measurements up to 10 A DC from 0.1 μΩ to 2000 Ω. Supplied without test leads (NLS), it empowers test engineers to match application-specific duplex handspikes, Kelvin clamps, or heavy-duty lead lengths across UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman power systems.

Why the Megger DLRO10-NLS Matters for Electrical Testing

In high-voltage substations, industrial manufacturing, and switchgear commissioning, contact degradation leads to catastrophic thermal failures. The Megger DLRO10-NLS provides high-accuracy micro-ohm resolution using 4-terminal Kelvin sensing to automatically cancel test lead resistance and thermoelectric EMF (thermal EMF) across dissimilar metallic joints.

Purchasing the No Lead Set (NLS) edition eliminates wasted budget on standard factory leads when your testing environment requires bespoke duplex Kelvin spikes, heavy-duty C-clamps, or 10-meter extensions for wind turbines and large transformers.

Core Technical Capabilities & Engineering Features

10 A DC True Current

Automatic bi-directional current reversal cancels thermoelectric voltages, ensuring ±0.2% measurement accuracy on busbars and joints.

📏

0.1 μΩ to 2000 Ω Range

Seven auto-selected measurement decades cover high-amperage circuit breaker contacts through fine wire coil resistances.

🎯

Multi-Mode Operation

Supports Manual, Auto, Continuous, and Inductive modes for rapid testing of both resistive switchgear and inductive motor windings.

🧭

Rugged Portability (IP65/IP54)

Field-ready enclosure rated IP65 with lid closed and IP54 in operational mode, optimized for demanding desert and industrial environments.

Megger DLRO10 & DLRO10HD: How to Use (Step-by-Step Field Guide)

Proper operation of a 10A micro-ohmmeter ensures operator safety, equipment protection, and repeatable contact resistance values compliant with IEEE and IEC standards:

  1. Pre-Test Isolation & Safety: Ensure the device under test (DUT) is completely de-energized, locked out/tagged out (LOTO), and grounded. Never connect the DLRO10 to live circuits.
  2. Kelvin Probe Connection: Connect the 4-terminal test leads into C1, C2 (Current terminals) and P1, P2 (Potential/Sense terminals). Ensure the potential pins are positioned inside the current injection points on the test specimen.
  3. Mode Selection:
    • Auto Mode: Starts test automatically as soon as all 4 probes establish solid contact. Ideal for fast multi-point busbar inspection.
    • Continuous Mode: Repeatedly updates measurements every 3 seconds to monitor contact settling or thermal drift.
    • Inductive Mode: Charges inductive components (transformers, large stator coils) before stabilizing the reading to prevent arc discharge.
  4. Execute & Record: Read the stable micro-ohm value on the backlit LCD. If testing dissimilar metals, allow the dual-polarity cycle (<3s) to automatically eliminate thermal EMF offsets.

Megger DLRO10 & DLRO10HD Troubleshooting Guide

Symptom / Error Indicator Probable Root Cause Engineering Solution
C or P Continuity Warning Flags Poor probe contact, oxidization layer, or loose Kelvin terminal. Clean contact surfaces with wire brush; reseat 4mm Kelvin plugs; inspect spike tips for wear.
Unstable / Drifting Readings External electromagnetic interference or inductive core not saturated. Switch to Inductive Mode; twist C and P lead pairs together to reject external magnetic field noise.
Noise Warning Symbol AC ripple or induced substation noise exceeding instrument rejection limit. Verify circuit grounding; route test leads away from parallel energized overhead cables.
Unit Powers Off Under 10A Load Internal battery cell impedance high or depleted NiMH/Li-Ion module. Perform a full 4-hour conditioning charge cycle or connect an external 12V DC auxiliary source.

Important Configuration Notice:

The DLRO10-NLS (Megger Part # 1006-664) version is supplied without test leads. This provides substantial procurement savings if you already possess Megger DH4, DH5 duplex handspikes, or KC-series Kelvin clamps. If you require custom lead configurations, contact our technical desk for matching accessories.
