Overview
The Kyoritsu KEW 5406A is a digital RCD (residual-current device) / ELCB tester used to confirm that earth-leakage protection devices operate correctly and quickly enough to keep people safe. By injecting a controlled test current it measures the current at which an RCD trips and the time it takes to trip, verifying compliance with wiring regulations during installation testing, commissioning and periodic inspection.
The KEW 5406A covers rated tripping currents of 10, 20, 30, 200, 300 and 500 mA, and offers x1/2, x1, x5, DC-sensitive and auto-ramp test modes to check standard, selective (time-delay), AC and A-type (DC-sensitive) RCDs. Trip time is measured to 1 ms resolution with 0/180° phase-angle selection, and three LEDs indicate correct wiring status. It operates on 230 V, 50 Hz supplies, has a rugged IP54-rated housing and is rated CAT III 300 V.
