Megger ADX-12 Overview

The Megger ADX-12 is an automated static motor analyser for testing motor windings, coils, assembled motors and generators. Built for OEMs, maintenance engineers, repair shops and field-service teams, it brings a full suite of static electrical tests together in one instrument for verification, validation, fault-finding and research, guided by a large daylight-viewable touchscreen and automated test sequences that make thorough testing fast and repeatable.

The “-12” denotes a nominal maximum surge test voltage of 12 kV, placing the ADX-12 between the 6 kV ADX-6 and the 15 kV ADX-15 in the family. Alongside surge testing it performs DC insulation resistance (with Polarisation Index and Dielectric Absorption), DC HiPot and — on the optional -RLC and -PD variants — winding resistance, inductance, capacitance and partial-discharge measurement to IEC 61934. Results are managed through PowerDB cloud software for configuration, reporting and trend analysis, and the analyser can be coupled with a Megger Baker PPX to extend surge testing up to 40 kV.

The Megger ADX-12 suits motor repair shops, OEM test bays and plant maintenance teams that test windings, coils, assembled motors and generators. Megger’s base ADX-12 (1013-913) does surge, insulation resistance with DA and PI, and DC HiPot as standard, step or ramp. The ADX-12-RLC (1013-918) adds low-voltage resistance, inductance and capacitance, the ADX-12-RLC-PD (1013-922) adds partial discharge on surge, and PPI versions add the interface for a Baker PPX power pack. Megger states the ADX must be connected only to isolated, de-energised circuits.

Megger’s datasheet figures for the 12 kV model: surge from a nominal 100 V to 12 kV, 100 nF surge capacitance, 4 Hz nominal repetition, 700 A typical short-circuit current, minimum load inductance 120 µH at 12 kV and ±10% voltage accuracy. Surge waveforms are judged with EAR+ pulse-to-pulse and line-to-line error area ratio analysis. DC IR and HiPot: ±2% ±5 V, 1.2 mA maximum output, 1 nA displayed current resolution, current accuracy ±4% ±5 nA up to 2 kV, and IR from 100 kΩ to 1 TΩ. RLC option: resistance 0.001 Ω to 100 kΩ at up to 10 A (±2% ±0.25 mΩ), inductance 0.01 µH to 10 H at 120 Hz, capacitance 0.01 nF to 50 µF. PD option: PDIV/PDEV and RPDIV/RPDEV per IEC 61934, threshold 1.0 to 999 mV.

Hardware: an Android unit with a 10.4-inch 1024 × 768 touch screen made for use with insulated gloves, an IP68 silicone keyboard, Wi-Fi, gigabit Ethernet, two USB ports and HDMI. It stores data on 8 GB plus a 480 GB SSD, and battery backup gives 4+ hours standby so you can move between assets without shutting down. It imports existing Baker AWA and DX databases. Mains input is 90 to 264 V AC; it is IP40, works from 5 to 40 °C, weighs 21 kg and measures 457 × 584 × 216 mm.
