Megger Teleflex SX-1 Cable Fault Reflectometer

Megger Teleflex SX-1 Overview

The Megger Teleflex SX-1 is a portable, high-performance cable fault prelocation reflectometer used to locate faults on power cables. It combines classic time-domain reflectometry (TDR) with the advanced high-voltage methods needed for real cable faults – arc reflection (ARM multishot and burning), impulse-current decoupling (ICE), decay and phase comparison – plus partial-discharge pinpointing, all in one rugged handheld unit.

A measurement range up to 160 km with 0.1 m resolution, 400 MHz sampling and over 96 dB dynamic range (with ProRange de-attenuation) let it resolve faults precisely, even far down the cable. A bright, anti-glare 10.1-inch colour touchscreen with an intuitive pie-chart interface and single jog-dial makes operation quick, while an IP65-rated body and Li-Ion battery suit demanding field conditions.

Who the Megger Teleflex SX-1 is for

The Megger Teleflex SX-1 is for cable fault location crews who need a portable two-channel TDR for prelocation on power cables, either alone or as the radar and control head of an SPG 40 system over CAN. It suits vans and field teams that use ARM, ICE and decay with a surge generator, and that want Multishot traces on difficult PILC or wet faults.

Megger Teleflex SX-1 Key Features

What the Megger Teleflex SX-1 delivers on a fault job:

• Portable two-channel TDR for power-cable fault prelocation, standalone or as the radar/control unit of an SPG 40 via CAN
• HV methods: ARM Multishot (15 traces per shot), ARM burning, ICE, decay, phase comparison and PD pinpointing
• Measuring range 20 m to 160 km at VOP 80 m/µs; 0.1 m resolution; 0.1% accuracy; unipolar pulse, width 20 ns–10 µs, amplitude 50 V fixed (Megger Teleflex SX-1 datasheet, TELEFLEX_SX-1_DS_EN_V03)
• True 400 MHz sampling; 96 dB dynamic range with ProRange distance-dependent de-attenuation for far-end events
• 10.1 in sunlight-readable capacitive touchscreen (1280 × 800, 1000 cd/m²) with pie-chart UI and single jog dial
• USB, BNC and CAN ports; 12 V Li-Ion battery for field use; MeggerBook Cable reporting software available
• IP65 enclosed / IP54 open, about 7.8 kg, operating -10 to +50 °C

Megger Teleflex SX-1 FAQ

What fault crews ask about the Teleflex SX-1:

• Does it replace a thumper? No. It is a reflectometer. High-resistance fault methods need a surge wave generator and coupling filter; the SX-1 can also control an SPG 40 over CAN.
• What is ARM Multishot? Megger records 15 traces per arc-reflection shot so the operator can pick the clearest fault image on PILC, long or wet cables.
• What does ProRange do? It applies distance-dependent de-attenuation so far-end reflections stay visible without distorting the near field.
• Can I compare phases? Yes. Two-phase TDR mode can show up to six traces at once for phase comparison.
