Megger UHF PD Detector Handheld Online PD Surveying System

Overview

The Megger UHF PD Detector (UHF PDD) is a handheld, on-line partial-discharge surveying system used to assess the insulation condition of medium- and high-voltage substation equipment while it stays in service. Partial discharge is an early indicator of insulation breakdown, and by detecting and locating it non-invasively the UHF PD Detector helps engineers find developing faults before they cause equipment failure, unplanned outages or safety incidents.

Built around a large 6-inch colour touchscreen, the instrument is a dual-channel system that can measure two phases or two sensor types at once. It works with UHF, transient earth voltage (TEV) and high-frequency current transformer (HFCT) sensors to survey HV components such as cable terminations, surge arresters, voltage transformers and isolators, as well as MV switchgear. A phase-resolved PD (PRPD) display, synchronised to the power frequency, helps identify the type of defect and distinguish real PD activity from noise. A battery life of more than ten hours supports a full day of field surveying.
