Megger MPAC128 Acoustic Imaging Camera

Megger MPAC128 Acoustic Imaging Camera — See Leaks & Partial Discharge

The Megger MPAC128 is a handheld acoustic imaging camera that uses a 128-channel MEMS microphone array to visualise the ultrasound produced by compressed-air and gas leaks and by electrical partial discharge. Overlaying a real-time sound image on the optical camera view, it lets maintenance and inspection teams pinpoint leaks and PD sources quickly and safely from a distance of up to 120 m.

Who the Megger MPAC128 is for

The Megger MPAC128 is for plant energy managers chasing compressed-air and gas losses, and for electrical teams who want to spot corona and surface discharge on switchgear, insulators and overhead lines without getting close to live parts. Only two settings need adjusting, the frequency range and the dynamic range, so a survey can start without a long set-up.

Details from Megger’s MPAC128 datasheet that help you plan an audit:

• Leak-rate quantification for cost estimates, with ISO 50001-compliant report types for gas and electricity
• Focus function to cut unwanted noise, and ultrasound converted to audible sound for pinpointing
• Array self-check that flags when the microphone array needs attention
• Sound pressure range 25.7–132.5 dBA, free Acoustic Analysis software, and firmware updates by microSD or USB-C stick

For refineries and Zone 2 areas choose the Megger MPAC128-ATEX, and also compare the Megger MPAC208. To confirm PD with electrical sensors, pair it with the Megger UHF PD Detector or the Megger PD Scan.

Megger MPAC128 Key Features

What the Megger MPAC128 brings to a leak or PD inspection round:

• 128-microphone array — MEMS microphone channels detecting ultrasound from 2 kHz to 48 kHz.
• Long detection range — locates leaks and partial discharge from 0.3 m up to 120 m.
• Sensitive leak detection — detects leaks as small as 0.37 ml/s at 1 m (7 bar).
• Partial-discharge analysis — Phase-Resolved Partial Discharge (PRPD) to distinguish corona, surface and internal discharge.
• 7-inch touchscreen & 8 MP camera — 1024 × 600 capacitive touchscreen with an 8-megapixel optical camera and 62° × 48° field of view.
• Rechargeable battery — 6600 mAh, 7.2 V Li-ion giving about 4 hours under full load, charged through USB-C.
• On-board storage — 8 GB internal plus microSD / USB-C export (JPG, WAV, MP4).
• Rugged & portable — IP54, −20 °C to +50 °C, 272 × 174 × 42 mm, 1.7 kg.

Megger MPAC128 Applications

The MPAC128 is ideal for compressed-air and gas leak surveys, energy-loss audits and electrical partial-discharge inspection on switchgear, insulators and overhead lines — helping industrial and utility teams find faults and reduce energy waste. An ATEX-certified version (MPAC128-ATEX) is available for Zone 2 hazardous areas.

Megger MPAC128 FAQ

What maintenance teams ask about the MPAC128:

• MPAC128 or MPAC128-ATEX? The standard model (1015-886) suits non-hazardous plants and substations; the ATEX model (1015-885) is rated II 3G Ex ic IIC T5 Gc for Zone 2 areas.
• How small a leak will it show? Megger quotes 0.37 ml/s at 1 m and 0.7 ml/s at 10 m, both at 7 bar.
• Can I record what I find? Yes: JPG images, WAV audio and MP4 clips of up to 5 minutes, saved to 8 GB internal memory and exported by microSD or USB-C stick.
• What temperatures can it work in? −20 °C to +50 °C in use, and 10 °C to 45 °C while charging.
