Megger VLF Sine Wave 34 kV Cable Tester

Overview

The Megger VLF Sine Wave 34 kV is a portable cable test system that applies a true sine-wave very-low-frequency (VLF) test voltage to medium-voltage cables. Sine-wave VLF testing is widely specified for commissioning and maintenance testing of MV cable because it stresses the insulation in a controlled, standardised way while keeping the test set small and transportable compared with power-frequency equipment. This 34 kV model is aimed at routine testing of MV distribution cables.

It generates a 0.1 Hz sine-wave test voltage (and can also perform rectangular or DC voltage tests) with a maximum test capacity of 5 µF, and includes integrated breakdown detection that shuts down the output automatically if the charge current becomes excessive. Simple single-button operation, an IP54 rating for outdoor use and a continuous duty cycle make it practical for field work. The system also acts as the voltage source for optional tan-delta and partial-discharge attachments, so it can be expanded from a withstand tester into a full cable diagnostic platform.
