Megger 830220-1 Cable Phasing Meter

Overview

The Megger 830220-1 is a battery-operated cable phasing meter used on underground medium-voltage distribution systems. Before two cables are connected together they must be confirmed to be in phase; the 830220-1 lets an engineer do this safely by connecting to the capacitive test points built into the elbow connectors on cable terminators, so the measurement is made at low voltage even though the system operates at up to 30 kV.

Connected to the capacitive test points, the meter measures voltage, determines phase rotation and phases out cables, indicating whether two points are in phase. It covers systems up to 30 kV (with an alternate 0–15 kV range) at 50 or 60 Hz, with an accuracy of ±8% and an adjustable tap-capacitance setting (0.4 to 3.0 pF per channel) to suit different connectors. Powered by four AA batteries giving around 300 hours of continuous operation and supplied with potential and ground leads, it is a compact, dependable tool for cable jointing and switching work.
