Kyoritsu KEW 4200 Digital Earth Clamp Tester

Overview

The Kyoritsu KEW 4200 is a clamp-on digital earth tester that measures earth resistance simply by clamping around an earth conductor or rod — without the auxiliary earth spikes and disconnection needed by conventional fall-of-potential testers. This makes it exceptionally quick and convenient for checking earthing on multiple-earthing systems, such as tower footings, distribution earths and parallel-earthed installations, where the return path is provided by the other earths in the network.

The KEW 4200 measures earth resistance from 0.05 to 1500 Ω and, as a bonus, measures true-RMS AC leakage current (including distorted waveforms) from 1 mA to 30 A, so earthing condition and leakage can be assessed with one tool. It stores up to 100 readings, and features data hold, a buzzer alarm, a backlight and noise detection to warn of interference. It is rated to a high CAT IV 300 V. Note that, as a clamp-on tester, it is for multiple-earthing systems and cannot measure a single isolated earth.
