Megger MIT525 5 kV Insulation Resistance Tester

The Megger MIT525 is the 5 kV model with memory in Megger’s first-generation MIT range, for test teams who must keep a record of insulation tests on cables, transformers, motors, generators, circuit breakers and bushings. Compared with the MIT515, it adds result storage with time and date stamps, recall to screen, USB download to PowerDB, a real-time 1 Hz output of voltage, current and resistance, and the dielectric discharge, stepped voltage and ramp tests. Megger has since replaced it with the Advanced Megger MIT525/2. Fixed test voltages are 250 V, 500 V, 1 kV, 2.5 kV and 5 kV, plus a user voltage from 40 V to 1 kV in 10 V steps and 1 to 5 kV in 25 V steps. Test voltage accuracy is +4%/−0%. At 5 kV, accuracy is ±5% up to 1 TΩ and ±20% up to 10 TΩ. At 500 V the ±5% band reaches 100 GΩ. The 3 mA output charges a cable at under 3 s/µF to 5 kV and discharges it at under 250 ms/µF. Noise rejection is 3 mA from 450 V to 5 kV. The guard removes parallel leakage paths down to 500 kΩ with no more than 1% extra error on a 100 MΩ load. Memory holds 5.5 hours of logging at 5-second intervals, and the timer runs to 99 min 59 s. The battery gives about 6 hours of continuous testing at 5 kV into 100 MΩ, and a 30-minute charge gives more than 60 minutes of testing. It weighs 4.5 kg.
