Megger TXL830 Overview

A 24 V bank built from large cells can ask for several hundred amps in a short capacity test, while a TORKEL 930 or 950 draws at most 220 A on its own (110 A for the TORKEL 910). The Megger TXL830 fills that gap at the low-voltage end of the range: a resistive load box, cabled straight to the battery terminals, that takes extra current alongside the TORKEL. It has no regulation of its own. The TORKEL measures the total battery current with its DC clamp-on probe, keeps that total at the set level and switches the TXL830 off through its TXL STOP output when the test ends.

According to the Megger TORKEL 900-series datasheet V12, the TXL830 takes up to 28 V DC and adds up to 300 A of load current, with 8.3 kW maximum power. Its three-position selector (0.275, 0.138 and 0.092 Ω) gives about 100, 200 or 300 A on a 12-cell lead-acid bank at 2.3 V per cell (27.6 V). Multiple TXL units can be linked to reach combined currents of up to several kA, with thermal cut-outs and automatic overload protection safeguarding the equipment. Mains powered and built for field use, the TXL830 takes its stop command from the TORKEL’s TXL STOP output, while the TORKEL measures the total current through its clamp-on ammeter, so the whole discharge is recorded as a single test.
