Overview

The Megger SPG5-1000 is a compact surge generator and cable fault locating system designed for low-voltage distribution networks. In one portable unit it combines DC proof testing, automatic fault detection, fault conditioning (burning), surge-based prelocation and acoustic pinpointing, giving cable crews a complete fault-finding workflow without needing several separate instruments.

Its surge generator delivers up to 1000 J at surge voltages up to 4 kV (with DC testing to 5 kV), enough to thump and pinpoint faults reliably. Instead of traditional TDR, the SPG5-1000 uses Megger’s ICEplus method, which analyses the low-frequency component of the flashover impulse and works dependably even in branched networks with multiple T-joints – a common challenge in LV distribution. PLC-based control and a clear display make operation straightforward.
