The Megger MCT105 is a compact transmitter-and-receiver cable locator that detects and traces cables, conductors and metallic pipes on live or dead circuits. Ideal for electricians and maintenance teams, it combines route tracing, fault location and non-contact voltage detection in a lightweight kit that fits easily into a tool bag.

The MCT105 (part number 1013-836) is for electricians, building maintenance and facility teams. It finds out where a cable runs and what it feeds before you drill, dig or switch off the wrong circuit. Clip the transmitter to the conductor. Its display shows signal level, transmission code and any voltage on its terminals. The receiver then shows signal strength, the code and whether mains voltage is present, with a variable tone you can switch off. Sensitivity can be set automatically or by hand, both units turn themselves off, and both warn when the battery is low.

• Finds faults behind walls and floors: breaks and short circuits in cables and in electric underfloor heating
• Identifies circuits: locates the fuse or breaker feeding a circuit in the distribution board
• Depth: about 0 to 2 m single-pole and 0 to 0.5 m double-pole, depending on the medium. Megger quotes buried-cable detection to 2.5 m. Voltage detection works to about 0.4 m.
• Environment: works from 0 to 40 °C. Transmitter 130 × 69 × 32 mm, receiver 192 × 61 × 37 mm.
