The Megger MIT2500 is a rugged handheld insulation and continuity tester offering test voltages up to 2.5 kV for testing higher-voltage equipment such as motors, cables and switchgear. With feedback-controlled test voltages, insulation measurement to 200 GΩ and fast 200 mA continuity testing, it gives electricians and engineers laboratory-grade accuracy in a portable CAT IV 600 V instrument.

The MIT2500 (order code 1004-745) is for motor, generator and cable maintenance teams. Megger designed it for work where operating voltages exceed 1000 V and a 1 kV handheld is not enough. Megger also lists avionics, military land, marine and air communications, production-line goods, component testing, and battery-powered traction and lifting equipment. You can pick fixed steps of 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000 and 2500 V, or dial any of 1100 voltages between 50 V and 2.5 kV. Feedback control keeps the output within -0% +2% ±2 V of the set value, where the original design allowed +20%. That means less risk of over-stressing the circuit under test.

From Megger’s MIT2500 datasheet (V08):

• Guard terminal: under 5% error with a 500 kΩ parallel path on a 100 MΩ load. Megger advises using it at 1000 V and above or above 100 MΩ.
• Diagnostics: automatic PI (10 min/1 min) and DAR (60 s/15 s or 60 s/30 s), timed tests and test lock
• Safety: blocks the insulation test if 25, 30, 50, 75 or 100 V is present (50 V default). Above 1000 V, testing is blocked into loads over 15 nF. Rated CAT IV 600 V to EN 61010-1.
• Continuity: one range from 0.01 Ω to 1 MΩ at 200 mA or 20 mA, with lead null up to 10 Ω and optional two-way testing
• Results: stores more than 1000 results and sends them over Bluetooth (up to 10 m) as CSV, or to the CertSuite Asset app
• Field build: 6 × AA alkaline or NiMH cells for at least 3000 tests at 1000 V. IP54 case, works from -10 to +55 °C. 815 g, or 1.75 kg with the case.

What buyers ask before choosing the MIT2500:

• How is it different from the MIT400/2 series? The MIT400/2 testers stop at 1000 V. The MIT2500 adds 2500 V, a variable voltage, a guard terminal and a 200 GΩ range.
• Can it be recharged? Yes. Fit six NiMH AA cells and use the optional charging pack (mains charger kit 1007-464). Megger lists mains and car charging options.
• When should I use the guard lead? Megger recommends it at 1000 V and above, or when you expect more than 100 MΩ. Surface leakage on dirty equipment or cables can otherwise skew the reading.
• Does it measure capacitance? Yes, from 0.1 nF to 10 µF (±5% ±2 digits from 1 nF).
