Megger VLF CR-60HP and VLF CR-80 Cosine-Rectangular Cable Test Systems

Overview

The Megger VLF CR-60HP and VLF CR-80 are the high-power members of Megger’s cosine-rectangular very-low-frequency (VLF) cable test family. Typically vehicle-installed, they are built to test long lengths and larger cross-sections of medium- and high-voltage cable where a standard portable VLF set would not have enough power. Their high test capacity means all three phases of a cable can be tested at once at the standardised 0.1 Hz frequency, without having to reduce the test frequency for large loads.

The VLF CR-60HP delivers up to 60 kVrms with a test capacity of 6.5 µF, covering cables up to around 20 km at maximum voltage and suiting cable classes up to about 36 kV; the VLF CR-80 raises the output to 80 kVrms for the highest-rated cables. Both systems combine VLF withstand testing, positive and negative DC modes, cable and sheath testing, sheath-fault pinpointing (with the ESG NT step-voltage probe), leakage-current measurement and automatic protocolling with breakdown detection — giving a complete cable test and diagnostic platform in one system.
