Insulation resistance up to a maximum of 4000 M is recorded by the PCE-IT100 insulation tester with auxiliary voltages of 125 V, 250 V, 500 V and 1000 V. This device functions by applying a very low voltage (typically 500 volts or less) to an electrical component or piece of equipment and flowing a very little current through it. If the part’s insulation is effective, a limited area will be covered by the current; if the insulation is insufficient, a greater area will be covered. By measuring the amount of applied voltage and passing current, it is possible to calculate the insulation resistance and determine whether the insulation of the targeted portion is normal.
