Description

The Fluke 381 Remote Display TRMS Clamp Meter sets a new standard for electrical measurement safety and convenience. Designed for professional electricians and engineers, this instrument allows users to measure current in conductors without making direct contact, reducing risk in energized panels. The remote display unit, connected by a flexible current probe, enables safe measurement in confined spaces or around hazardous live parts. With True RMS capability, the Fluke 381 provides accurate readings on both linear and non-linear electrical loads, making it an essential tool for troubleshooting, maintenance, and installation work across industrial and commercial environments.

Fluke 381 Key Features

The Fluke 381 combines advanced True RMS technology with a remote display system that enhances both safety and measurement accuracy. The flexible current probe extends the measurement capability to conductors that are otherwise inaccessible, while the main unit displays readings wirelessly via the 2.4 GHz ISM band. Position sensitivity markers (A, B, C) on the jaw ensure optimal conductor placement for accurate readings, and the TRMS function guarantees precise measurements across various waveform types. This clamp meter is built to withstand demanding workshop environments while delivering the reliability Fluke is known for.

Who Needs the Fluke 381?

Electrical maintenance technicians will find the Fluke 381 indispensable for troubleshooting live circuits without the need to disconnect conductors. The remote display feature allows safe measurement from a distance, which is critical when working on energized switchgear or distribution panels. Field engineers performing preventive maintenance will appreciate the flexibility of the current probe, enabling them to measure current in tight conduit spaces or around bundled wires where traditional clamp meters cannot reach. The wireless range of 10 meters provides additional safety by allowing operators to monitor readings from a protected position.

Industrial electricians working on motor controls and variable frequency drives benefit from the Fluke 381’s True RMS accuracy, ensuring proper load analysis on non-linear loads. Building services engineers can use the device for HVAC system commissioning and troubleshooting, while quality control inspectors rely on its precision for compliance testing. Even procurement teams specifying electrical test equipment will value the Fluke 381’s comprehensive specification set and industry-leading safety ratings, making it a sound investment for any organization’s tool inventory.

Fluke 381 Applications

The Fluke 381 excels in electrical panel troubleshooting, where technicians can clamp around bus bars from a safe distance using the remote display. This application is particularly valuable in industrial settings with high-voltage equipment where direct contact measurement poses significant risk. The flexible current probe further extends capabilities to measure current in bus duct systems, generator leads, and motor feeds without dismantling electrical enclosures.

Energy auditing and power quality analysis represent another key application for the Fluke 381. The True RMS measurement capability accurately captures harmonic distortion in modern electrical systems with variable frequency drives and LED lighting. Facility managers can use the device to identify inefficient circuits, while consulting engineers can verify power factor correction equipment performance. The frequency measurement function aids in diagnosing motor speed issues and detecting electrical faults in rotating equipment, making the Fluke 381 a versatile tool for both preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
