Megger GA-09552 High-Rating Extension Cable Set, 2 x 3 m, 70 mm²

Megger GA-09552 Overview

Battery rooms are rarely laid out with the test cart in mind. When the TORKEL cannot be parked within reach of the battery terminals, the Megger GA-09552 adds a further 3 m to each current cable. It is a pair of 70 mm² extension leads, male at one end and female at the other, listed by Megger as the extension for the GA-09550 and GA-00545 cable sets.

Who the Megger GA-09552 is for

It is meant for owners of a Megger TORKEL 930 or TORKEL 950, which ship with the GA-09550 high-rating cable set, and for teams that use the GA-00545 set. The same GA-09550 cables are also supplied with the TXL830 and TXL850 extra loads, so crews running a TORKEL with TXL units use the same extension.

The TORKEL family is covered on our Megger TORKEL 900 series page, and other battery test gear is in our battery tester range.

Megger GA-09552 Key Features

Points that matter when you extend a discharge-test cable run:

• 70 mm² conductors, the same cross-section as the GA-09550 high-rating cable set
• Two leads, each 3 m long, for the positive and negative current paths
• Male / female ends, so the extension plugs in line between the existing cable set and the TORKEL
• Listed by Megger for both the GA-09550 (70 mm², fork ends) and GA-00545 (50 mm², clamp ends) cable sets

Megger GA-09552 Applications

Common reasons to add the extension:

• Discharge and capacity tests on substation and telecom battery banks where the load unit must stay outside the battery room
• UPS and data-centre battery strings with long aisles between the test position and the string terminals
• Set-ups that combine a TORKEL with TXL extra loads and need extra cable length to reach every unit

Longer current cables add voltage drop. Megger’s TORKEL datasheet recommends separate sensing cables to keep voltage readings accurate when current cables are long or current is high; see the accessories section for the matching Megger GA-00210 sensing lead set.

Megger GA-09552 FAQ

Questions we hear before customers order the GA-09552:

• Which TORKEL models use it? The TORKEL 930 and TORKEL 950 ship with the GA-09550 cable set that this extension is made for. The TORKEL 910 uses the 25 mm² GA-00550 set, whose matching extension is the GA-00552.
• What current is the extension rated for? Megger’s datasheet gives 270 A for the GA-09550 set and 220 A for the GA-00545 set, but it does not print a separate rating for the GA-09552. Plan your test around the rating of the cable set and load unit you use, and ask us if you need confirmation from Megger.
• Will it affect my voltage reading? Extra cable length means extra voltage drop on the current leads. Megger advises separate voltage sensing leads to the battery terminals in that case.

Ordering the Megger GA-09552 through MME

Tell MME which TORKEL or TXL units you run and how far the load must sit from the battery, and we will confirm whether the GA-09552 is the right extension or whether your 25 mm² set needs the GA-00552 instead.
