Megger TRAX 279 Transformer and Substation Test System

Overview

The Megger TRAX 279 is the high-current member of the TRAX multifunction transformer and substation test family, bringing the capability of many separate instruments together in a single unit. Designed for power, distribution and instrument transformer testing as well as general substation apparatus, it performs winding resistance, turns ratio, excitation current, leakage reactance, demagnetization, tan delta/power factor and more, greatly reducing the number of instruments an engineer must carry and the connections made on site.

What sets the TRAX 279 apart within the family is its 800 A AC current output, which supports high-current applications such as heat-run and load-loss testing on large transformers and substation equipment. The 279 is the computer-controlled variant, operated remotely from an external PC rather than a built-in touchscreen. It provides a variable-frequency source (5–505 Hz) for temperature-corrected tan delta and power-factor testing with high measurement accuracy, and optional software packages extend it to tap-changer analysis, frequency response of stray losses, magnetic balance, instrument-transformer testing and more.
