Megger EGIL Overview

The Megger EGIL is a compact, easy-to-use circuit breaker analyzer designed for timing and motion testing of circuit breakers with one break per phase. It measures main and auxiliary contact timing, travel/motion and coil current, giving substation and maintenance engineers a straightforward instrument for routine breaker condition assessment.

The Megger EGIL is for utility and industrial maintenance teams that test medium-voltage circuit breakers with one break per phase. Megger limits it to one break per phase because its three main timing channels share a common ground and are not galvanically isolated. Each main channel times the main contact and, on breakers with pre-insertion resistors, the resistor contact at the same time. Two galvanically isolated AUX channels time dry or wet auxiliary contacts, using contact or voltage sensing. The built-in breaker control unit runs C, O, C-O, O-C or O-C-O sequences, measures coil currents automatically, and reads the breaker’s state to set itself for the next operation.

From Megger’s EGIL datasheet: measurement time 1 to 100 s, resolution 0.1 to 10 ms, and time base inaccuracy 0.05% of reading ± resolution. On the main channels, below 10 Ω reads closed, 10 Ω to 3 kΩ reads as a resistor, and above 3 kΩ reads open. Coil current is measured up to ±25 A per channel with 25 mA resolution and 1% of reading ±100 mA inaccuracy. The control contacts carry 5 A continuously and 25 A for 300 ms, with pulse length and delay adjustable in 10 ms steps. The optional analog channel (−4 to +4 V, 2 mV resolution) takes a 1 to 5 kΩ travel transducer. The thermal printer uses 114 mm paper at 203 dpi. The EGIL runs on 115/230 V AC, works from 0 to +50 °C and weighs 5.9 kg.

Versions: BM-19090 basic unit, BM-19092 with USB port and CABA Win, BM-19093 with analog input channel and USB, and BM-19095 with the SDRM option and USB. The SDRM201 kit (CG-90250) adds static and dynamic resistance measurement.

Megger EGIL vs EGIL200

The EGIL is the classic single-breaker timer/analyzer for one break per phase.
