The Megger BITE2 and BITE2P Battery Impedance Testers are essential tools in the maintenance and performance assessment of lead-acid and nickel-cadmium battery cells up to 7000 Ah. These robust, reliable instruments are designed to perform online testing, making them incredibly efficient for continuous power systems without the need for system shutdown.

One of the standout features of the BITE2 and BITE2P is their ability to provide immediate health diagnostics of battery cells through Pass/Warning/Fail indications, which are calculated based on user-defined baseline values. This feature simplifies the interpretation of the battery’s condition, enabling quick decision-making regarding maintenance or replacement actions.

The operational methodology of these testers involves applying a test current across the battery string while the system is online, and then measuring the total current (which includes both AC ripple and test current) as well as the voltage drop across each cell or jar. This data is used to calculate the impedance of each cell, an essential parameter for assessing battery health. Additionally, the BITE2 and BITE2P measure DC voltage and strap (interconnection) resistance, offering a comprehensive view of the battery system’s condition from terminal plate to terminal plate.

To support the ongoing health assessment of battery systems, the BITE2 and BITE2P include PowerDB LITE Software, enhancing data management and analysis capabilities. The BITE2P model further offers the convenience of an integrated printer for immediate printout of test results, providing a tangible record of battery health directly at the test site.

Both models encourage regular maintenance schedules, recommending impedance measurements be recorded semi-annually for flooded batteries and quarterly for Valve-Regulated Lead-Acid (VRLA) batteries as part of a structured battery maintenance program. These regular checks help to predict battery failures and extend battery life effectively.
