Olympus 45MG Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge

The Olympus 45MG Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge is an advanced instrument packed with standard measurement features and software options. This unique instrument is compatible with the Olympus dual-element and single-element thickness gauge transducers, making it an all-in-one solution for virtually every thickness gauge application. This article will explore the features and benefits of the Olympus 45MG Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge.

Features

  • The Olympus 45MG Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge is a simple gauge that requires minimal operator training to tackle most common thickness gauging applications. However, with additional optional software options and transducers, the Olympus 45MG can become significantly more advanced and take on applications well beyond a typical entry-level gauge. Furthermore, most options are available individually at purchase or can be added as your needs change.
The 45MG offers five code-activated software options, making it one of the most versatile thickness gauges in the industry. These options include:
  • Echo-to-Echo: The gauge displays the proper metal thickness and ignores the thickness of the coating layer, using multiple back-wall echoes.
  • THRU-COAT Technology: This option allows measuring true metal and coating thicknesses with a single back-wall echo.
Auto Echo-to-Echo mode with A-scan: This mode shows the proper metal thickness and ignores the thickness of the coating layer, using multiple back-wall echoes.
  • THRU-COAT mode with optional waveform: This mode shows the thickness of the coating and steel.
  • Manual Echo-to-Echo adjusting the First Echo blank: This mode allows for adjusting the first Echo blank.
  • The Olympus 45MG also offers a full-featured internal bidirectional alphanumeric data logger that is designed to store and transfer thickness readings and waveform data easily. The data logger option includes the GageViewâ„¢ Interface program.

Benefits

The Olympus 45MG Ultrasonic thickness gauges offer several benefits over mechanical and optical measurement techniques in various common manufacturing and in-service test applications, supporting quality control, reliability, and condition monitoring in a cost-effective and user-friendly way. Some of the benefits of the 45MG Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge include:

  • The measurement from one side: Ultrasonic gauges require access to only one side of pipes, tanks, tubing, containers, hollow castings, large metal or plastic sheets, and other test pieces where the inside surface is impossible or difficult to reach.
  • Completely non-destructive: No cutting or sectioning of parts is required, saving scrap and labor costs.
  • Highly reliable: Modern digital ultrasonic gauges are highly accurate, repeatable, and reliable.
  • Versatile: All common engineering materials can be measured with appropriate gauge setups, including metals, plastics, composites, fiberglass, ceramics, and rubber. Most instruments can be pre-programmed with multiple application setups.
  • Wide measurement range: Ultrasonic gauges are available for measurement ranges as broad as 0.08 mm (0.003 in.) minimum to 635 mm (25 in.) maximum, depending on material and transducer selection. Resolution can be as fine as 0.001 mm or 0.0001 in.
  • Easy to use: Most ultrasonic gauging applications use straightforward pre-programmed gauge setups and require only a small amount of operator interaction.
