Megger PIL 8 Cable and Phase Identifier

Overview

The Megger PIL 8 is a cable and phase identifier that allows the phases of medium-voltage cables to be positively identified while the cables remain earthed and short-circuited – without removing the safety grounding. This makes phase matching across cable ends both faster and safer, an important advantage when working on multi-core or parallel MV circuits in substations and switchgear.

The system uses an audio-frequency generator at one cable end and a set of maintenance-free, battery-free transceiver clamps at the other. The generator injects a 3 kHz signal, the clamps encode and return it, and the receiver displays the phase identification on a clear LCD. Compliant with EN 50110-1 (VDE 0105 part 1), the PIL 8 is a practical tool for cable crews needing reliable, safe phase identification.
