The Megger PIL 8 Cable and Phase Identifier is an advanced tool designed for precise and safe phase identification during the installation of medium voltage cables. Efficient and Safe Operation:

The PIL 8 is specifically tailored to facilitate quick and reliable phase determination at the jointing locations of medium voltage cables. It is compatible with any type of switchgear, making it a versatile tool for a wide range of electrical systems. The device adheres to VDE regulation 0105 part 1 (EN 50110-1), which dictates that earthing and short-circuiting should not be disconnected during phase identification. The PIL 8 streamlines this process by allowing the doors of the chamber to be closed immediately after the installation of its three pairs of transceiver clamps, thus eliminating the need to disconnect the short-circuiting and earthing circuits.

Innovative Technology:

The PIL 8 employs maintenance-free transceiver clamps that connect directly to the short-circuited phases without requiring additional connection leads or external power supplies. At the other end of the cable—whether at a cutting point or another substation—a battery-operated audio frequency generator introduces a current into the cable. This current generates a voltage within the transceiver clamps, which is then captured and stored in a capacitor.

Intuitive Signal Transmission:

Each transceiver clamp houses a small audio frequency generator. Upon connection to a DC voltage, this generator transmits a coded signal to a receiver, clearly indicating the specific phase connected to each clamp. The audio frequency generator at the cable’s cutting point then serves as the receiver, displaying the signals from the transceiver clamps for accurate phase identification.

User-Friendly Design:

Designed for simplicity and ease of use, the PIL 8 requires only one operator to conduct the test, making it an ideal solution for projects where manpower is limited. The operation of the device is straightforward, with a focus on absolute safe phase identification to prevent any errors during the testing process.
