Megger 550005B Single-Phase Hand-Cranked TTR Test Set

Overview

The Megger 550005B is the long-established single-phase, hand-cranked transformer turns ratio (TTR) test set, used to test single-phase power and distribution transformers for shorted coils, open circuits and other internal faults. Because it generates its own test supply with a built-in hand crank, it needs no mains or battery power and can be used anywhere in the field, which has made it a dependable workhorse for transformer maintenance for decades.

The 550005B uses a precision null-balance bridge with four decade dials to measure turns ratio directly, giving an accuracy of ±0.1% over a range of 0.001 to 129.999 (extendable to 329.99:1 with an auxiliary transformer). It applies an 8 V, 50/60 Hz test signal and also measures exciting current from 0 to 1 A, with a divide-by-five switch for finer resolution. Its rugged, self-contained construction makes it ideal for situations where no power source is available.
