The MJ159, MJ359, and 210170 Major Megger insulation resistance testers are advanced instruments designed to meet the demanding needs of high-voltage insulation testing. These models excel in providing precise test voltage regulation, making them perfect tools for measuring insulation resistance, especially when higher ranges are necessary.

Each of these testers incorporates a cutting-edge design that features an external guard terminal. This addition significantly helps in eliminating surface leakage current from the measurements, enhancing the accuracy and reliability of the tests. The use of all-electronic components allows these devices to generate a regulated DC high voltage. They employ low-zero-drift, high-accuracy circuits with high current sensitivity to ensure precision in every reading.

Portability is a key aspect of the MJ159, MJ359, and 210170 models. Each unit is housed in a molded, impact-resistant, flame-retardant case made from ABS plastic, which includes a fold-down carrying handle for easy transport. This design not only ensures durability but also user convenience in various testing environments.

The MJ159 and 210170 models are particularly notable for their unique power generation mechanism. They are equipped with low-voltage, hand-cranked generators designed to be effortlessly operated even under full load conditions. The generated voltage is then stabilized through an electronic inverter, guaranteeing that the test voltage remains constant irrespective of the cranking speed.

The MJ159 offers four selectable test voltages—100, 250, 500, and 1000 V DC—and can measure insulation resistance up to 2000 MΩ, with an ohm range extending to 5000 Ω. It shares several features with the MJ359, which, however, relies on either a 120 V AC 50/60 Hz source or a similar low-voltage generator for power.

The 210170 model stands out with its capability to perform high-resistance readings up to 20,000 MΩ and insulation resistance measurements that can reach up to 20 GΩ across all voltage ranges. It includes a comprehensive calibration in megohms, ohms, and AC volts. Additionally, it features a continuity range from 0 to 5000 Ω and a voltage measuring range from 0 to 600 V AC, including the detection of DC voltage presence.

A critical safety feature in all these models is the automatic activation of the AC voltage range as soon as the device is connected to a circuit. This ensures that users are warned if the circuit is live before operation begins. Moreover, following tests on capacitive equipment, such as cables, the testers provide an indication of the voltage level to confirm it is safe to remove the test leads.
